Bolivia closes contract for the sale of 2.2 MMmcd of gas to Brazilian private company Ambar
UCOM-MH-07-26-2019.- This Friday, in the capital of Santa Cruz, the sale of 2.2 million cubic meters per day (MMmcd) of Bolivian natural gas was closed between YPFB and the Brazilian private company “Ambar Energía Ltda.”, required for the thermoelectric generation of the plant located in the city of Cuiabá, capital of the State of Matto Grosso, Brazil. "First congratulate the two companies because the contract for the sale of natural gas has already been consolidated, which is the result of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2018. The commitments assumed with the country become reality," said Minister Sánchez during the act that was attended by the representative of the Brazilian company, Marcelo Brani Silva de Abreu.
Sanchez said that negotiations with Ambar Energía Ltda. Continue to expand the sales volumes of natural gas since the Brazilian company intends to increase power generation at the plant of its property for which it will require larger volumes of fuel. He also said that with the expansion of the electricity generation from 500 megawatts (MW) to 1,500 MW at the plant, YPFB will be a shareholder of it by tripling the volumes. “With the shareholding in the thermoelectric plant, YPFB will enter the energy sector. These are important steps that Bolivia is taking in the internationalization of YPFB, ”he said.
For his part, Silva de Abreu said: “This is an important step for the consolidation and strengthening of the partnership between the two companies, allowing, in this way, a more business relationship. I would like to thank you for the opportunity, which strengthens that relationship. The contract is a step so that in the future the business of Ambar can be expanded in the State of Matto Grosso and here in Bolivia ”.
Sánchez said that the new policy in Brazil of the liberalization of gas trade, characterized by the opportunity of participation of private companies, not only Petrobras, facilitates the natural gas business to Bolivia. “We have infrastructure that integrates us energetically with Brazil; specifically we have two pipelines, one that goes to Sao Paulo and another that goes to the city of Cuiabá. This existing infrastructure facilitates the business of selling natural gas to the States of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso Do Sul, both states with the highest GDP in Brazil, with which we already have significant progress to realize more contracts ”.
According to the minister, the internationalization of YPFB, is not only a concept, but a real fact, which consists in the opening of gas markets and that YPFB can participate as a partner in projects outside the country generating greater profits and benefits for all Bolivians .
In reference to the opening of markets, the minister considered it pertinent to remember that at the beginning of this month, YPFB completed the sale of 2.2 MMmcd of Bolivian natural gas to the Russian company Acron, required at the Tres Laguna lagoon fertilizer plant, in addition to the creation of a joint venture for the commercialization of urea of the Amoniaco - Urea and Tres Lagunas plants.
Sánchez emphasized the commitment to continue consolidating more markets along the lines of continuing the negotiation pre-agreements. “We will continue working visualizing more private buyers not only in Brazil, but in Argentina, Peru, which are emerging as new markets. Of course, that in parallel we will continue the exploration tasks in the different areas throughout the national territory to guarantee the supply of the internal market and the new destinations ”.
