Brazil's Libra field chalks up new find

Brazil's Petrobras identified oil at the Libra offshore field under contract LIBRA_P1, the energy giant's third oil find on the acreage this year.

The discovery was made in the Santos basin at well 3BRSA1350RJS (Petrobras designation 3RJS747) in a water depth of 2,098m, according to hydrocarbons regulator ANP.

Petrobras spud the well on June 5 with the West Carina rig. Year to date, the company has reported nine hydrocarbons finds of the total 15 filed by all operators.

Companies are obliged to report any hydrocarbons discovery within 72 hours. The find does not necessarily constitute a commercial accumulation.

ALVOPETRO

For its part, Alvopetro Energy completed drilling well 177(A1) at onshore block 177 in the Tucano basin, Bahia state.

"The 177(A1) well was drilled to a total measured depth of 1,100 metres and did not discover commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. We plan to abandon the well," the junior operator said in an update.

Alvopetro added that the well satisfies approximately half of its current phase exploration work commitment for the block, subject to ANP approval.
