This Celec release was published using machine translation.
The Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP), through its Business Unit CELEC SUR, aligned with the objectives of the National Government, evaluate the wind potential for Cuenca, Suscal, Chilla and Santa Isabel.
In 2019, the CELEC EP Expansion Planning Directorate delegated to CELEC SUR the acquisition, installation and certification of four wind measurement towers in order to evaluate the wind potential, to date the towers are installed in which are measured speed, wind direction at various heights, temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. It is now in the process of certification according to the IEC-61400-12-1 standard with the company Barlovento, from Spain, which is in the international Measnet network, said Pablo Guzmán, Head of Environmental Social Management.
On October 2, the Manager of CELEC SUR, Iván Hidrobo and technicians from the Environmental Social Management area carried out a technical tour of the towers installed in the Pimo community, Cuenca canton, to verify the progress of the evaluation of the wind resource with the in order to have electricity generation projects with renewable energies.
In Pimo, at the end of 2018, a meteorological tower was installed and it was verified that the existing wind resource in the sector is adequate for the future implementation of a wind farm. Here an average annual speed of 12 m / s (meters per second) is recorded, allowing a preliminary definition of a probable power of 100 MW, highlighted Iván Hidrobo, manager of CELEC SUR.
So far, in coordination with the CELEC EP Expansion Planning Directorate, the technical analyzes of the data obtained, the geological evaluation of the predefined polygon and a preliminary environmental evaluation have been carried out, with these data the project profile has been developed , indicated Verónica Polo, specialist in Environmental Social Management at CELEC SUR.
