Chile amends digital services tax disclosure rules for card issuers
Chile’s tax agency SII has amended rules in the sphere of VAT on digital services, local paper Diario Financiero reported.
Under the changes, non-bank card issuers are required to disclose information on transactions involving the purchase or contracting of digital services provided by entities domiciled outside of Chile.
Non-bank issuers include retailers and savings and loan cooperatives.
Originally the requirement was limited to banks that issue cards.
Chile started taxing, at a rate of 19%, digital services provided by foreign-domiciled companies – such as film and music streaming providers Netflix and Spotify – in June last year. This was part of a wider reform to modernize the tax system.
In related news, 139 foreign-domiciled firms that provide digital services in Chile have registered with SII for VAT payment purposes, among them global tech giants Google, Facebook and Apple, the paper said.
