Chile approves US$70.5mn transmission project

Chile's Antofagasta region (II) environmental evaluation service approved a US$70.5mn transmission project planned by Engie Energía Chile.

The project entails a series of modifications to the Chacaya-Crucero transmission line on Chile's northern SING power grid.

The modifications include an increase in voltage to 500kV from 220kV, and a reduction in length to 145km from 160km.

Engie Energía Chile and Spain's Red Eléctrica also form the consortium TEN, which is building a 600km, 2x500kV transmission line that will connect the SING with Chile's central SIC power grid.
