
Colombia: In 2022, the accumulated demand for the year grew 3.34% compared to 2021

In December 2022, the energy demand was 6,445.56 GWh-month, which means that it had a stable behavior with respect to the national consumption of December 2021, where the demand was 6,429.36 GWh-month. It is noteworthy that the regions that presented an increase in their demand in relation to December of the previous year were: Oriente with 9.07%, South with 2.05%, Chocó with 1.61% and Guaviare with 0.1%.
The growth in national demand for December 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 was impacted by the decrease in consumption in six regions of the country: Caribbean -2.79%, Valle -1.3%, THC (Tolima, Huila, Caquetá) - 1.08%, Center -0.97%, CQR (Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda) -0.66% and Antioquia -0.09%.
Likewise, the national demand was impacted by the behavior of the Caribbean region, in which, in December 2022, the demand of the regulated market (residential and small businesses) decreased 3.47% (1,256.65 GWh-month) compared to the same month of the previous year (1,301.88 GWh-month). On the other hand, in the same region the demand of the non-regulated market (industry and commerce) fell in December 2022, 0.83% (454.04 GWh-month) in relation to December 2021 (456.44 GWh-month).
Among the economic activities with the highest growth in energy demand in the unregulated market for the month of December compared to the same month of 2021, the following stand out: exploitation of mines and quarries with an increase of 17.30% and transportation and storage with 6.97 %”, reported Jaime Alejandro Zapata Uribe, manager of the XM National Dispatch Center.
The demand for electricity in the month of December 2022 remained stable with respect to the same month of 2021.
