DuPont Latin America sales up 8%
US chemical company DuPont (NYSE:DD) said sales rose by 8% in Latin America in the fourth quarter of 2013, to US$1.35bn.
The performance was driven by a 12% rise in sales volumes, offset by a 4% drop in local currencies against the dollar.
For the full year, Latin American sales rose by 6% to US$4.79bn, with a 3% fall in currencies offsetting a 12% overall rise in volume.
DuPont said the fourth quarter performance was supported by strong insecticide sales in Latin America, and early corn seed shipments in Brazil and North America.
Worldwide, DuPont's sales increased 6% to US$7.7bn in the quarter, with 9% volume growth. Net income doubled to US$185mn.
