Ecuador, IDB sign electrification program loan
Ecuador signed an agreement with IDB for a US$30mn loan to continue the country's rural and marginal urban electrification program Ferum, state newspaper El Ciudadano reported.
The loan will go toward 736 rural energy projects aimed at improving or supplying connections to homes, as well as the construction of distribution lines.
For areas where extension of the electric network isn't feasible, 10% of the loan will be reserved to provide guaranteed cost-effective and sustainable electricity services.
According to the bank, there are eight provinces in Ecuador with a collective average electrification rate of 86.2%.
