Financial Services Watch: Elo-MoneyPag card, B2W goes shopping
Brazilian prepaid, debit and credit card company Elo and digital services firm MoneyPag have launched the first card without printed numbers in Brazil.
Called MoneyPag Elo, users are not charged an annual fee and are promised more security by providing access to the number, expiration date and security code only through the MoneyPag app.
The idea is to avoid exposing customer data on the physical card, companies claim.
Through the app, users control their account and can buy online, pay bills, transfer and receive money, top-up cell phone credits and make withdrawals and deposits, among other services.

Digital company B2W has bought online marketplace startup SupermercadoNowSupermercadoNow, a home delivery platform for purchases made in supermarkets.
The acquisition is in line with B2W's strategy of better serving customers by offering everything, anywhere at any time, B2W said in a statement.
It will also allow B2W to expand its presence in the supermarket sector and challenge platforms such as Rappi and Loggi.
The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
Launched in 2016, SupermercadoNow works with 30 partner supermarket chains. Customers can choose their preferred grocery store and create a customizable shopping cart.
The customer may also choose to pick up items at the store or receive goods at the desired address at a scheduled time.
