Fourteen Companies Compete Today For Local Operating Concessions

Mexico's telecommunications commission, Cofetel, accepted 14 companies to compete in today's auction of local telephone service concessions despite continuing debate over regulations concerning state-owned Telmex' existing installations.

The companies are: Alestra, Banamex-MCI, Bazan, Bestel, Grupo Hermes, Iusacell, Innovacion en Telecomunicaciones y Tecnologia, Miditel, Qualcomm & Pegaso, Radiomovil Dipsa, Sistemas Profesionales de Comunicacion, SWR Mexico, Telinor and Telmex.

Companies will bid for the local telephone operating concessions in a series of rounds that can be followed on Cofetel's web-site: http:\\www.cft.gob.mx.
