Gerdau produces record 1Mt in March

Sao Paulo, 07 - Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau produced more than 1Mt of the metal in March, a monthly record, according to a statement released Monday. Of the total, 56% was produced in Brazil and 44% abroad. Porto Alegre-based Gerdau has subsidiaries in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Canada and the US. According to Gerdau, production this year is expected to reach 12Mt, which would mean a 25% rise from 2002. About 21 years ago, Gerdau's annual production was running at some 1Mt. by Daniela Milanese
