Germany, September 28, 2022. Showing the potential of Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB) and strengthening trust between businessmen, German authorities and the industry of the federated states of that country that lead the energy sector, was the purpose of the visit of the multilatina, headed by its president, Juan Ricardo Ortega.

The visit, motivated by an invitation from the Embassy of Colombia in Germany to participate in two major events that promote the global energy sector: Hydrogen Dialogue (Nuremberg) and Energy Day (Berlin), was a window to show the progress of the multilatina on the path of energy transition and non-conventional renewable energies, with hydrogen as one of Colombia's bets, not only because of the country's conditions, but also because of the development of the electricity sector.

“Currently Colombia is trying to measure the new challenges of the energy transition. As part of the new global agenda and the commitment to sustainability, we are seeing that what it could represent is the possibility that the hydrogen market can be developed in a good way in our country, since we have the conditions to do so”, he mentioned. this Tuesday the president of the GEB in the panel 'Global energy transition: practical examples', in development of the Energy Day.

In the panel, which he shared with representatives of the sector from the United States and China, Ortega highlighted the opportunity that Colombia has in the face of current geopolitical adversity, to mark the path of the energy transition for the next 30 years. For this, he said that a new gas infrastructure can ensure supply and reliability, so that, in addition, the alternatives in the market for the production and transportation of hydrogen are increased.

“Colombia is the twenty-fifth country in extension of the territory, but it does not have much industry, our land is extensive enough to be accessible for solar and wind generation. When we look at the energy transition of our country, we see that it is extremely different from Europe. Our energy sector hardly consumes fossil fuels, it is almost 100% clean, because we have a lot of water and most of the generation is hydroelectric,” Ortega stressed, while highlighting the advantages of accessing the advanced knowledge offered by German industry to achieve development investments for Colombian hydrogen.

“This is a great challenge for a country like ours. Access to capital is our main concern; if we do not achieve reasonable costs it is quite unlikely that we will be able to make these investments and that is part of the discussion that we want to share with you, our understanding of how we see the business developed and the possibility that Colombia will invest significant amounts of resources to be one of the reliable allies of Europe in the production of hydrogen in the future”, he concluded.

As part of the agenda in Europe, Juan Ricardo Ortega visited the Siemens Energy GIS Blue substation factory in Berlin; There he learned about the advances and applied technology in transition and decarbonization issues as a shared commitment with the GEB in the purpose of promoting the country's energy transition. In addition, he met with representatives of the company Alstom, a leader in the commissioning of hydrogen-based railway lines in Germany and a pioneer in sustainable transport issues.

He also visited the Helmholtz Erlangen Institute in Nuremberg, a center specializing in research on renewable energies, among which hydrogen stands out.
