Hispasat, Intelsat co-locating satellites to raise LatAm services

Bnamericas Published: Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Spanish satellite operator Hispasat and Luxembourg-based satellite network operator Intelsat agreed to combine satellite services at orbital position 55.5º W, enabling both companies to enhance their Latin America services.

The operators will co-locate Intelsat's Galaxy 11 and Hispasat's Amazonas 1 at the position for two years to expand services for media and other regional clients while the Amazonas 1 will use the new position to contribute part of the audiovisual services for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, according to a Hispasat release.

Intelsat, which highlighted strong demand from its Mexico and Andean markets in 3Q13, is anticipated to roll out its Intelsat 30 satellite in the second half of 2014 which will primarily provide services to DirecTV Latin America.
