IN BRIEF: Facebook, WhatsApp are Mexico's preferred social platforms

Mexicans are using Facebook and WhatsApp more than any other social networks, according to the Study of Internet User Habits 2016, conducted by the Mexican internet association (AMIPCI).
Facebook has the highest penetration in the market, with 92% using the social network across all devices. WhatsApp is second with 79%, YouTube third with 66% and Twitter fourth with 55%.
WhatsApp is still the preferred choice for smartphone users, with 64% using the app, but Facebook is a close second on mobile with 63%.
The study, compiled through 1,720 interviews with a range of Mexican individuals, also shows that internet penetration in Mexico reached 59.8% of the population in 2015, equivalent to 65mn users. This is up from 51% in the previous year, representing 15.7% growth.
