May iron ore exports up almost 11%

Brazil's iron ore exports totaled 16.2Mt in May, up 10.9% from 14.6Mt in the same month last year, iron ore and base metals sector entity Sinferbase reported. Pellet exports, included in the above figure, rose by just over 200,000t to 3.85Mt in the same year-on-year comparison. Export revenues totaled US$323mn in May compared to US$288mn in the fifth month of 2002. Domestic consumption of iron ore rose from 3.75Mt to 4.6Mt in the same period, according to Sinferbase.
