Mexican president unveils new green H2 project in Oaxaca
Danish investment fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners is set to begin construction of a green hydrogen plant in southern Mexico, in Salina Cruz port on the coast of Oaxaca state.
When it is up and running, the plant is intended to fuel vessels at the busy seaport, which lies on the Pacific coast of the Tehuantepec isthmus rail corridor linking to Mexico's Gulf coast, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said in a letter addressed to US President Joe Biden on August 8.
The letter was delivered to Biden by foreign minister Alicia Bárcena Ibarra during her visit to Washington DC, but its content was only revealed during AMLO's Wednesday press conference.
In the letter, the president confirms that he will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on November 15-17 in San Francisco, California, but asks Biden to visit three projects in Mexico before the event if his agenda allows it.
In addition to Salina Cruz, AMLO suggested that Biden see Altamira port in Tamaulipas state, where US firm New Fortress and Mexican state-owned power utility CFE are building a liquefaction plant “to export gas to Europe.”
He also proposed paying a visit to the 1,500km Maya train project that will connect five states on the Yucatán peninsula.
The White House has not yet confirmed that any official visit to Mexico will take place.
BNamericas has identified at least another six projects added recently to Mexico’s green hydrogen pipeline in various states of the country.
