Mexico probes Chinese flat steel dumping
Mexico's economy ministry launched an antidumping investigation into shipments of flat stainless steel from China and Taiwan.
The probe, which covers cold-rolled flat stainless steel with a width of 600mm or more and a thickness of 0.3-1.0mm, was launched following a complaint by Mexican steelmaker Outokumpu Mexinox, which claimed there had been a sharp increase in such imports at dumping prices.
The investigation will cover imports between October 2017 and September 2018, according to a filing on the Mexican federal gazette website.
Dumping is a key threat to Mexican steelmakers, with China seen as a major culprit. The ministry slapped new duties on Chinese steel welding wire last October, along with a levy on steel tubes from the Asian country in March 2018.
