MINEM: Regular and premium gasoline will be marketed from 2023

This Minem release was published using machine translation.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) informs that, as of January 2023, it will begin the adaptation process for the sale of regular and premium gasoline and gasoholes, within the framework of a simplification process that seeks to promote the use of cleaner and more efficient fuels, in accordance with national and international energy policies.

This measure does not imply any increase in the price of fuels and, on the contrary, will guarantee the continuous supply of the market, with the goal of achieving an efficient use of these sources of energy, avoiding cost overruns in dispatch and giving users predictability when when they require the supply of gasoline.

Currently, the classification of gasoline and gasoholes is done through the octane system, which implies having exclusive infrastructure for up to 5 types of fuels, generating a gap in coverage and quality, in addition to inefficient use in storage to the detriment of citizens. .

With the simplification undertaken, only two types of gasoline will be sold -regular and premium- which will optimize the logistics of marketing activities, reduce activity times and operating expenses in the marketing chain, in addition to providing greater capacity by volume of fuels.

Additionally, this process will strengthen energy security, provide a supply of gasoline and gasoholes compatible with the evolution of the automotive fleet, in addition to mitigating polluting emissions, improving air quality and public health.

It should be noted that the implementation of these changes is progressive and a 60-day term is being granted, counted from January 1, 2023, to wholesale fuel producers and distributors to adapt to this process, and to taps and direct consumers the term will be 120 days.

And exceptionally, in the interior of the country, 84 octane gasohol may continue to be sold until December 31, 2023, while in the Loreto, Amazonas, San Martin and Madre de Dios regions, 84 octane gasoline may be sold until December 31, 2023. June 30, 2024.

The MINEM, through the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH), will work in coordination with Osinergmin so that wholesalers, retailers, marketers and fuel sales establishments adapt optimally to the simplification process, since it will bring benefits to million Peruvians and the environment.
