In order to identify all those homes that lack electricity in rural areas of the country, and thus quantify the current gap in this area, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) created a modern technological application, for use by regional and local authorities, which has given very positive results to date.
The application called "DGER + Rural Electrification", which is used from the cell phone, has made it possible to identify citizens who lack electricity service to reference their data geographically and then proceed to the planning of projects for the extension of electrical networks or implementation of photovoltaic systems, as the case may be.
The identification of the houses, carried out by regional and local government officials trained by the MINEM, allowed the formulation of 18 rural electrification projects, which add up to a total investment of S/ 121 million for the benefit of 66,000 inhabitants of 1,060 rural localities of the regions of Áncash, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Piura and Puno.
Currently, four of the aforementioned projects (two in Ayacucho and two in Puno) are in preliminary procedures to contract the preparation of the technical file and execution of the work, for which it is estimated that implementation will begin this year.
As for the remaining projects, the General Directorate of Rural Electrification of MINEMS is preparing the technical profiles, which also include the supply of electricity to community centers, health posts and educational centers.
