In attention to the sanitary provisions dictated by the National Government in the framework of the Coronavirus Pandemic, with the entry of 50 percent of the technical personnel of the Binational Entity Yacyretá (EBY), the rehabilitation works of the generating units have been resumed from the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Power Plant (CHY).

The tasks were totally suspended at the beginning of the health quarantine, in compliance with government regulations; and after the implementation of the intelligent quarantine, operations are restarted at generating units No. 01 and No. 3.

In this stage, the tasks of great relevance in the renovation of the aforementioned units, subjected to the process of rehabilitation and modernization after 26 years of operation, are prioritized.

As a result of the sustained use and the passage of time, both units presented wear, leading to the decision to start the process in order to guarantee its operation in the future.

"When the tasks are resumed, the work is focused on the assembly of the generator rotor of Unit No. 03 -the first to be rehabilitated- which has a completion schedule for next June; once the assembly is completed, other operations are carried out, approximately anticipating its start-up in the month of December of this year ”, indicated engineer Leopoldo Melo, Head of the Technical Department of the Binational Entity Yacyretá.

"The rehabilitation of Unit No. 01 is in the assembly stage of the new turbine with its respective accessories, and it is estimated that it could enter into commercial service in the first half of 2021," added the professional.

The manufacturing, dismantling of the old turbine, assembly of the new and commercial commissioning of the units are in charge of the Paraguayan Argentine Consortium CAPY.
