Paraguay advances procurement for hydro plant revamp

Two groups submitted bids in a tender by Paraguay's state power company Ande to overhaul the 200MW Acaray-Yguazú hydroelectric complex.

The process for the design and execution of the civil works drew proposals from Consorcio TocsaPanedile Argentina and Tecnoedil Constructora.

Ande has budgeted 196 billion guaranies (US$25 million) for the contract, with economic offers scheduled to be opened on December 10.

Bidding is also underway for the project's electromechanical components.

The Inter-American Development Bank is helping finance the revamp of Acaray-Yguazú, which is located in Alto Paraná department.

In June, Acaray-Yguazú supplied 3% of Paraguay’s electricity demand, while the Itaipú dam, on the border with Brazil, and Yacyretá, shared with Argentina, accounted for 92% and 5%, respectively.
