PDVSA strengthens the storage capacity of CRP products

Paraguaná, June 3, 2019.- Technicians, craftsmen and security personnel, participate in the assembly and hoisting of the geodesic domes of tanks 202 and 203, belonging to Block 23 of the Amuay Refinery, reserve space for naphtha, alkylate , crude oil and water from PDVSA Paraguaná Refining Center (CRP).

With these works Petróleos de Venezuela, SA (PDVSA), increases the operational reliability of Amuay's tank yard, whose capacity exceeds one million 184 thousand barrels, and adds significant improvements that will impact the operational flexibility of the refinery.

Miguel Petit, leader of the Technical Management project, said that PDVSA and Cimontubo, a Portuguese construction company, are working to expedite the delivery "since we are aware of the impact of this project for the CRP, so we are committed to completing it with the highest standards of quality, costs and safety ".

Environmental preservation

The installation of these polyhedra meets the technological and safety parameters described in the international standard API 650 for the construction of oil tanks and has several benefits, commented the project leader, among them the one related to the environment by restricting the loss of product by evaporation, which helps maintain a cleaner atmosphere.

The CRP has won with this type of roof, confirmed Nayrenis Sánchez, engineering leader: "For the maintenance it is more profitable because the aluminum will not be corrosion and the costs are minimized. In addition, the products are kept cleaner because no material is removed from the cover. "

The tanks also have floating membranes made of fiberglass reinforced plastic, GRP for its acronym in English, and the CRP is a pioneer in the use of this type of technology.

Jennifer Smith, senior planner, stressed that the managers involved are committed to the tasks are met to achieve the goal. "The goal in this first stage of the project is to restore the storage capacity corresponding to 532 thousand barrels of naphtha and 206 thousand of alkylate, which represents 50% of the volume of Block 23".

What has been achieved so far demonstrates the commitment, identification and strength of the worker of PDVSA Paraguaná Refining Center and its business partner, to overcome the barriers that have been placed against Venezuela, evidence that with dignity and willpower the goals are achieved .
