Pemex tenders Ayatsil water injection platform to recover lost output

Mexico's state-owned oil and gas giant Pemex is tendering the engineering and construction of an offshore water injection platform off the coast of Campeche Bay.

Once built, the project would allow Pemex production and exploration unit PEP to treat and inject seawater into its Ayatsil field, and must guarantee the "quality, specifications, volume and continuity necessary to be injected into the field, being of vital importance to be able to recover the planned reserves and production," the tender documents state.

The selected firm will have to conduct basic and detailed engineering, procurement, construction, testing, loading and mooring of the PI-Ayatsil-F platform in the Gulf of Mexico, aimed at deploying a secondary recovery strategy at Ayatsil, where conventional production has failed to meet Pemex's expectations.

PEP will assist the selected contractor with its technical knowledge of the field and will verify and inspect the progress of the works.

In addition to building the platform itself, the tasks include conducting a series of studies, carrying out procurement, building the necessary power generation capacity and installing a series of systems, including water pumping, security, monitoring and air conditioning, among other works.

Ayatsil's output has fallen significantly below Pemex's projections and the company updated its development plan for the area in May. The new plan involves investing an additional US$5.5bn to implement a recovery strategy, doubling the originally expected investment to reach the field's previously forecast production yield.

At its peak in 2028-30, Ayatsil is expected to pump 150,000b/d of oil.

On a fast-track schedule, PEP has said it will answer questions from interested parties on July 5 and will receive offers on July 26. The proposals will be opened the same day and the winning bid will be announced on August 4. The contract will be signed within 10 days of the award.
