Peñoles official spells out aims of organizational shake-up
The former CEO of Industrias Peñoles, Fernando Alanís Ortega, outlined the aims of an organizational shake-up at the Mexican mining giant.
Peñoles, one of Mexico’s biggest gold, silver, zinc and lead producers, announced the creation of a “shared service and transformation” division, called Baluarte Minero, in December.
The move is aimed at centralizing mining operations within parent group Grupo BAL into two main units, namely administrative services and technical services, Alanís, who took the role as Baluarte CEO this month, told local daily Milenio.
“The aim [of the shake-up] is that the operative part is very focused on operations, in search of improved efficiency, productivity and operating excellence,” he added.
Baluarte will be tasked with improving administrative efficiency.
The reorganization is based on three basic principles.
The first two are promoting collaborative working and allowing the company to function as an “ecosystem,” recognizing dependence between various areas of responsibility.
The third is to promote greater responsibility for objectives and results, in order to boost growth in new focus areas, Alanís said.
“Now what we want is not just to survive but to have opportunities when unexpected situations arise,” he added.
The restructuring follows two years of planning, he added.
In addition to mining operations, managed by Peñoles and precious metals subsidiary Fresnillo, the company has metals processing and chemicals divisions.
