Penoles to Build US$260mn Thermo Plant

Mexico's electric energy regulator Comision Reguladora de Energia (CRE) has authorized the Penoles consortium to build a US$260mn, 230MW petcoke-fired thermoelectric plant in Tamuin, San Luis Potosi state. Work on the project is set to start next year and end December 2002. Penoles is an association of 20 local companies that seek to generate power for their own operations. Consortium members include Cia Minera las Torres, Minera Bismark, Quimica del Rey, Dolorey, Infraestructura Penoles, Magnels, Met Mex Penoles and Cia Fresnillo.
