Peru projects metallic mining output will grow 11% this year
After the hammer blow suffered last year by government restrictions to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, Peru’s metallic mining sector will grow 11% this year, according to the central bank.
Growth should be driven by higher production at large and medium-sized mining companies and the start of operations at copper projects Mina Justa and Ampliación Toromocho.
The sector will also benefit from investments expected for Quellaveco, Corani, San Gabriel and Yanacocha Sulfuros, the bank said in a report.
In 2022, metallic mining production is forecast to expand 6.9% thanks to higher output at Toromocho, Mina Justa, Las Bambas (Chalcobamba) and Constancia (Pampacancha), in addition to the start of operations at Quellaveco.
