Peru to tender frequencies in AWS-3, 2.3GHz bands
Through public tender, Peru's transportation and communications ministry (MTC) will allocate 60MHz in the AWS-3 band and 30MHz in the 2.3GHz band for the provision and improvement of telecommunications services.
In a press release the ministry said the decision was made after the projects of the 2.3GHz and AWS-3 bands were incorporated into the private investment promotion process.
Contract winners must offer by 2022 the expansion of fixed and mobile high-speed internet infrastructure to benefit 5,641 localities.
Concessionaires must also provide connectivity to almost 600 public institutions, public telecommunications services to more than 500,000 residents in various locations, and internet for toll and weighing stations.
Communications vice-minister Virginia Nakagawa said the allocation of the bands will be adjusted to the international experience of countries such as Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
Neither the conditions nor bases of the auction have been made public.
