Rig begins operations for Petronas in Suriname
Malaysia's national oil company Petronas has kicked off a three-well development in Suriname with the Noble Developer rig.
Offshore drilling contractor Noble's CEO Robert Eifler provided the update during the company's Q2 results call.
Previously, Petronas said it planned to use the rig to drill wells Caiman-1, Kiskadee-1 and Roystonea at deepwater block 52.
The US$84mn rig contract runs through January and has a one-well option.
Regional outlook
"Geographically, the recent deepwater demand trend has been shaped by continuing strength in South America, contrasted with softness in West Africa," Eifler said.
"Visibility throughout the region remains highly encouraging," he added, highlighting opportunities with Brazil's Petrobras.
"Elsewhere throughout South America, we are tracking potential floater programs throughout Suriname, Trinidad, Colombia, Uruguay, and the Falklands," Eifler told the call.
"So overall, the deepwater market in South America continues to show extraordinary depth and breadth of demand, which should keep the region in growth mode."
