Brazil's Pernambuco state department of taxation and finance has selected US IT company Unisys (NYSE: UIS) to provide IT services, Unisys said in a statement. The consortium led by its Brazilian subsidiary has won a contract, which was signed 2Q13, with an estimated value to Unisys of 8.1mn reais (US$3.6mn). Under the terms of the contract, Unisys will provide IT support services for e-Fisco, the integrated system that the Pernambuco state government uses for tax collection, as well as developing new tax, financial, accounting and budget features for the 34 subsystems that comprise e-Fisco. In addition, Unisys will provide support services for the department's IT infrastructure, such as technical support for servers and other equipment, database administration and transitional project management. *** German software giant SAP (NYSE: SAP) has appointed Catalina Manrique as the new cloud computing VP for the North of Latin America (NoLA) region, which encompasses Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Colombia and Venezuela, according to a company release. SAP says its main goal is to capitalize on the range of opportunities around cloud computing that are emerging in the region. Manrique has worked for 10 years at SAP. Over the last two, the executive has led the presales unit for Latin America and the Caribbean. *** Korean electronics manufacturer LG has launched its LG Smart line of smart refrigerators in the Chilean market, LG Electronics Chile reported. The appliance connects to the internet and comes with an integrated digital panel on its door to control and modify the settings of the refrigerator. It also has an interface similar to Android phones with preinstalled applications. One of these apps is Jumbo.cl, which reportedly enables people to manage the order from the fridge's screen to the retailer and confirm the payment details through the call center.
