Shell to drill Brazil exploration block by June
Shell plans to drill its first well in exploration block C-M-659, off Brazil’s southeast coast, between March and June, a source familiar with the matter told BNamericas.
The Campos basin Suçuarana well will be drilled by the Noble Developer rig, hired in 2021 by the Anglo-Dutch firm from Noble and Maersk Drilling, which merged last year.
The rig is currently carrying out works for Karoon in the Patola field, after which it will be moved to the Australian company’s Neon field to drill the first of potentially two control wells.
Block C-M-659 was awarded in the 16th concession bidding round, held by oil and gas watchdog ANP in 2019.
Shell is the operator of the area with a 40% stake, with Chevron (35%) and QPI Brasil (25%) as partners.
