Transport workers blockade Peñoles mine
Industrias Peñoles' Tizapa mine in Mexico has been blockaded by transport workers, local press report.
Access to the Mexico State zinc-lead-silver operation has been blocked since September 12 by workers, who claim affiliation with the CTM union, news website 20minutos reported, citing government news agency Notimex.
The blockade has prevented shipments of 1,800t of concentrates, Carlos Pavón Campos of the national mining and metallurgical front union, who opposes the blockade, was quoted as saying.
The union plans to take industrial action with the aim of protecting its workers from being fired by the company due to losses incurred by the blockade, Pavón added.
No one from Peñoles responded to an emailed request for information. Tizapa produced 40,996t zinc, 8,011t lead and 171,091kg (5.50Moz) silver in 2015, according to the company website.
