TV Azteca authorized to transmit multiprogramming

Bnamericas

Mexican telecoms watchdog IFT has authorized TV Azteca to transmit digital terrestrial television multiprogramming under the concession titles granted in 2004.

The television station may now transmit six signals over the same 6MHz frequency in various parts of the country.

The move is intended to provide greater choice and diversity of content to towns and cities across Mexico, according to an IFT press release.

TV Azteca currently operates channels 7, 13 and 40, which can now be increased to 18 signals with this new approval from the regulator.

Last week, the IFT fined TV Azteca for transmitting with a low-power transmitter.
