With the talk "Opportunities to integrate demand-side energy policies" the cycle of talks "Energy Challenges - Chile 2023" began, organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences UAI and the World Energy Council - WEC Chile.
In the talk, topics such as sustainable energy demand, new technologies, business models and sustainable forms of energy were addressed.
“We want these talks to be a place where opinions and points of view can converge, in addition to discussing technology, society and the transversal development of this matter. Being able to contribute to the challenges faced by the energy sector”, said the dean (I) UAI, Renato Cabrera, in the welcoming remarks.
In the same way, the executive director of WEC-Chile, María Trinidad Castro, thanked the alliance with the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences UAI to address the challenges of the energy sector from different perspectives and pointed out that "our main purpose is to promote an energy system sustainable and sustainable, focused on greater well-being in people. We can only build this with others, in collaboration”.
The role of demand in the energy sector
In the conversation, they reflected on the role of demand in the energy process and its change in the business model. The panel of experts was made up of Daniel Olivares, director of the UAI Energy Transition Center (CENTRA UAI); Javier Bustos, executive director of the Trade Association of Non-Regulated Electric Customers (ACENOR); Claudio Seebach, Executive President of the Chilean Generators Association and Cristina Victoriano, Deputy Executive Director of the Energy Sustainability Agency.
“As generators, we reviewed the purpose of electricity: electricity for what and what is its use? There one identifies that it has a central role in the transition that we have to experience in the coming decades as a planet, due to its fundamental contributions”, reflected Claudio Seebach.
Along these lines, Javier Bustos and Daniel Olivares, delved into the role of demand in Chile and the need for a paradigm shift, “the user was a consumer taker without saying anything. Today that structure is challenged,” says Bustos.
From a perspective of energy efficiency on the part of the consumer, Cristina Victoriano explains that it is necessary to "analyze two fundamental aspects: first, energy management - how it is taken care of and why I use it- and second, new technologies, when it is done technological change. Public policies are intertwining both aspects, which is why they are so relevant”.
It should be noted that the next talk is scheduled for January 2023.
