Viasat opens offices in Mexico City

California-based satellite provider Viasat opened offices in Mexico City as the company looks to step up satellite broadband internet offers in the country.
Viasat said in December it was entering Mexico in partnership with local company Ubix to start providing internet via its Viasat-2 satellite.
Earlier this year, it also announced a partnership with Facebook to bring connectivity to rural Mexico. And Viasat was picked last year by flagship carrier Aeromexico as its inflight internet provider.
"Mexico is an important market for us. Opening our new office is a necessary step to build our presence in [the] country and support current initiatives as well as potential future services such as the availability of education and residential internet services," COO Rick Baldridge said in a statement.
