Vizcarra shines as Peru confronts coronavirus crisis
After being one of the region's first leaders to institute mandatory social distancing guidelines and close his country's borders, Peru's President Martin Vizcarra is riding a wave of popular support.
In a March 20-21 poll of 800 voters, 87% of respondents approved of Vizcarra's performance, up from 52% the previous month.
Meanwhile, 83% supported the government's measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, compared to 16% who disagreed.
Through Sunday, Peru had 318 confirmed cases and five deaths attributed to the pandemic.
