Werthein expands presence in Peru with purchase of Nubyx customers

Grupo Werthein expanded its presence in Peru with the acquisition of Nubyx Hogar’s residential broadband customers, reinforcing its telecommunications expansion strategy as it advances in the region.

The acquisition was completed through the local operator Zaaz, which belongs to the Latin American holding Waiken ILW. The details of the transaction, confirmed by BNamericas, have not yet been disclosed and the company preferred not to reveal the amount of the transaction.

Waiken ILW concentrates the pay television operations of Vrio (DirecTV and Sky), the DGO and Sky+ streaming service platforms, fiber optic operators, television channels and technology companies of Grupo Werthein.

The seller Grupo Fiberlux will retain Nubyx's corporate business, which will be renamed Fiberlux Negocios.

At the close of the third quarter of 2025, Grupo Fiberlux had 77.909 broadband customers, including corporate services, according to figures from the regulator Osiptel. The number of Zaaz customers, which has a small market share, has not been disclosed.

In August 2022, DirecTV signed an agreement with WIN so that the company could offer DGO’s streaming services. WIN is one of the main fiber-optic broadband providers, with 729,377 customers as of the end of September.

The operation in Peru is part of a strategy by Grupo Werthein to expand in the telecommunications market through acquisitions. The company plans to invest US$450 million (mn) through 2031 in various telecommunications and entertainment segments in Latin America, with Brazil as its main focus.

In August of last year, the group announced plans to invest 1 billion (bn) reais (US$185mn) in Brazil through the end of 2026 to diversify its lines of business. In that country, Zaaz recently signed an agreement to acquire the local operator Proxxima Telecom.

The group would also be considering expansions in the United States and in countries such as Paraguay, Bolivia, and Costa Rica, according to Reuters.
