Workers end stoppage at Cobre Panamá
About 4,000 workers at First Quantum Minerals' copper-gold-silver property Cobre Panamá downed tools in response to changes in accommodation rules and others, local press reported on January 20.
However, company officials and workers reached agreement on Sunday in talks tabled by Panama's labor ministry, the latter said.
"Construction activities were limited over the weekend. Workers voted to return to work yesterday afternoon," First Quantum investor relations director Sharon Loung told BNamericas.
Labor minister Luis Ernesto Carles was due to visit the project to promote positive relations between the two parties Monday, the ministry said.
The US$5.71bn project is due for commissioning in 2018 followed by a ramp-up to full production next year.
