The reform of the Glacier Law could unlock between US$20bn and US$40bn in mining investments, according to Carla Selman, country risk director for Latin America at S&P Global. However, the initiative has sparked a strong citizen mobilization, with more than 50,000 people registered to participate in public hearings in order to defend the right to water for human consumption.  More

More than 27,000 people have registered for the public hearings to debate changes to the Glacier Law. The reform reduces the scope of environmental protection and transfers powers to the provinces, aspects that would allow the unlocking of investments of up to US$40bn in mining projects. More
