Claro Chile, a subsidiary of Mexico's América Móvil since August 2005, is one of Chile's three mobile telephony operators. In 2002 the company began expanding its third generation (3G) wireless network to boost capacity and meet growing nationwide demand for advanced data services using CDMA2000 1X technology from Nortel. It subsequently installed GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA networks throughout the country. In July 2010, Claro Chile merged with Telmex Chile to form a company which offers triple-play services under the brand Claro. Claro Chile is headquartered in Santiago, Chile.
