Venezuela's unlisted state-owned power generator Edelca produces more than 70% of the country's energy needs and owns an extensive network of transmission lines totaling more than 5,700km. Its power output (11,845MW) is consumed mainly within the Caroni basin in Bolívar state; the rest is transported around the country through 230kV and 400kV transmission lines. The firm is a subsidiary of Corporación Eléctrica Nacional, which in turn operates under the authority of Venezuela's oil and energy ministry Menmet.
