Created in 1995, Mexico's banking and securities regulator (CNBV) is a decentralized entity of the country's finance ministry. The regulator is responsible for maintaining and promoting the stability of the financial system and protecting depositors. CNBV supervises and regulates all financial institutions including banks, non-bank finance companies, stockbrokerage houses and mutual fund companies, among others.
