Minera Candelaria is the company that operates the Candelaria copper mine in northern Chile's Atacama region (III). Its facilities include a crushing plant, a concentrator and a port – Punta Padrones. The copper, gold and iron oxide deposit was discovered in 1987 and operations began in 1993. Until October 2014 the company was controlled by US-based Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold (80%) and Japanese consortium Sumitomo (20%). Lundin Mining Corporation bought McMoRan Copper & Gold's stake in November 2014.
