Costa Rican state power utility Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) is engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity, serving some 480,000 clients or 37% of the country's population. It operates 35 substations and 5,804km lines in operation with an installed distribution capacity of 1,499MVA. At end-December 2010, it boasted installed capacity of 88.3MW hydro and 3MW thermo. CNFL's wind power projects include the 15MW Valle Central and 9MW San Buenaventura wind farms. CNFL is a subsidiary of state power company ICE. The company was founded in 1941 and is based in San Jose, Costa Rica.
