Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios de Los Lagos (Essal) is a company that provides drinking water and wastewater services in southern Chile. Its concession area comprises 66.997km2 in regions Los Lagos (X) and De Los Rios (XIV) and is formed by 33 localities from provinces Valdivia, Ranco, Osorno, Llanquihue, Chiloé, and Palena. The firm's assets include a potable water network of over 2,000km as well as 26 water treatment plants and two underwater pipelines. Founded in 1990 and based in Puerto Montt, Essal was privatized in 1999. Since 2008 the firm is controlled by Chilean water utility Aguas Andinas, part of Spanish group Agbar.
