Chilean miner Minera Esperanza operates the Esperanza gold and copper mine located in Chile's northern region II. Esperanza started operations in November 2010 and was inaugurated in April. Reserves are estimated in 587 million tons with a total grade of 0.53%, with more than 0.22 grams of gold per ton. The project involved a total investment of US$ 2.7 billion. Esperanza has an 18-year mine life. Minera Esperanza is majority-owned by Antofagasta Minerals.
