Chilean miner Minera Esperanza operates the Esperanza gold and copper mine located in Chile's northern region II. Esperanza started operations in November 2010 and was inaugurated in April. However, it is still ramping up as the processing plant has been unable to reach designed throughput capacity of 97,000t/d. Once at full capacity, Esperanza will produce approximately 700,000t/y of concentrates containing 191,000t of payable copper, 215,000oz of payable gold and 1.56Moz of silver during the first 10 years of operations. Esperanza has an 18-year mine life. Minera Esperanza is majority-owned by Antofagasta Minerals.
