Guanaco Compañía Minera Ltda. is a Chilean gold and silver mining and exploration company responsible for the operation of the Guanaco mine, located in Chile's region II. Closed in 1998 and acquired by the company in 2003, the open pit mine, located 220km southeast from Antofagasta city, came online in 2010 and its underground operations started up in 2011. Guanaco's historical head grade ranges from 3g/t to 4g/t Au. Most of the mine's production comes from the Cachinalito underground system, but also from nearby vein systems. The company is owned by Australian miner Austral Gold and is headquartered in Antofagasta.
