Description:
Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) is a Japanese state agency established in 2004 and based in Tokyo, whose activities are focused on the stockpiling of oil and natural gas, metals and minerals, and coal; as well as providing mining pollution prevention services, and generation of geothermal power. Additionally, JOGMEC supports exploration, development, and production of oil, gas, and metal resources by Japanese companies abroad. Currently, JOGMEC is the financial guarantor of the lithium-potash project Salar de Olaroz in Jujuy, Argentina. It also holds 40% of the porphyry copper-gold deposit Josemaria in the project Constellation, through a Joint Exploration Agreement; and a mining cooperation agreement with the Chilean state copper producer Codelco for a joint exploration work in Chile and the implementation of Japanese technological solutions for exploration, production, IT, and the efficient energy use.
