Lithium Americas is a Canadian company developing one of the world's largest lithium operations. It currently has rights over some 164,700ha in five salt lakes in Argentina's Jujuy and Salta provinces. The company´s main property is the Cauchari-Olaroz lithium/potash brine project in Argentina's Jujuy province. Cauchari-Olaroz has proven and probable reserves to produce 40,000t/y of lithium carbonate and up to 80,000t/y of potash over 40 years. Lithium Americas was founded in 2009 and is based in Vancouver, Canada. In 2016, the company established a joint venture with the Chilean firm SQM. The Chilean firm attained a 50% stake in the company Minera Exar, which is responsible for the Cauchari-Olaroz project in Argentinean Province of Jujuy.
