Cheniere Energy, Inc. is a Houston-based energy company primarily engaged in LNG-related businesses. The company is currently developing a liquefaction project at Sabine Pass in Louisiana with capacity to export up to 27Mt/y of natural gas. The facility is expected to be the first to liquefy natural gas produced in the lower 48 states of the US for export. Operations are scheduled to begin in late 2015, coinciding with the start of a contract to supply Chile's state oil company Enap, when the US$5.2bn expansion of the Panama Canal is due to be completed. The company also has a 50% stake in the Penco Lirquén LNG project, a planned regasification terminal near the southern Chilean city of Concepción.
