Remittance growth picks up pace at 7.8% in April

Remittances to Guatemala continued their strong performance so far this year, posting 7.8% growth in April compared with the same month in 2010, according to the latest figures from central bank Banco de Guatemala.

Guatemalans abroad sent home US$371mn in the fourth month of the year, compared with US$344mn in April 2010. However, the figure was down 3.34% from March.

So far this year, money sent home by Guatemalans living abroad is up 8.8% to US$1.34bn, the central bank figures show.
